David Edward Reading, age 82, of Jay, Oklahoma, went to his heavenly home on October 17, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

David was born on June 28, 1943, in Picher, Oklahoma, to Harold Edward Reading and Wanda Jean Pierce. From a young age, David was known for his adventurous spirit, quick wit, and strong work ethic - qualities that would define his life.

A proud U.S. Navy Veteran, David faithfully served his country during two separate enlistments. His first term ran from September 25, 1961, to January 24, 1966, during the Vietnam War, and he reenlisted from October 16, 1975, to September 9, 1977. His service to his country remained one of his greatest sources of pride throughout his life.

David made his living as an auto mechanic, but his skills extended far beyond the garage. He was a man of many talents - restoring antique cars and furniture, tending to his flower gardens, and mastering any craft that caught his interest. A true do-it yourselfer, David believed in learning everything he could and being self-sufficient.

He had a passion for traveling, loved a good day of fishing, and found joy in the simple pleasure of working outdoors. He was also a devoted animal lover who shared his home and heart with his two beloved companions, Sassy and Tasha.

David married his best friend, Anita Marie Logan, of Vinita, Oklahoma. Together, they shared many happy years filled with laughter, companionship, and love.

He is survived by his stepson, Marty Banks of Louisiana, and his son, Stephen Wayne Reading of Seminole, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his sisters, Glenda Jobe of Bradenton, Florida, and Melody Williams of Jay, Oklahoma, and by his brother Kenneth Wayne Raney, and his wife, Sharon. David leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anita Marie Reading; his parents, Earl Eugene Raney and Wanda Jean (Pierce) Raney; his biological father, Harold Edward Reading; and his brothers, Earl Leon Raney and Larry Eugene Raney.

David’s life was a testament to hard work, love of family, and the joy of pursuing one’s passions. He will be remembered for his humor, his kindness, and the quiet strength with which he lived every day.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate David’s life will be scheduled at a later date. The family invites friends and loved ones to join them in remembrance when details are announced.
