Benjamin Funeral Service Nowata, Oklahoma 918-273-2700***Duane Richard Selvey, 82, passed away Friday, April 27, 2018 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Nowata, Oklahoma. He was born on September 24, 1935 to Luther James and Eunice Lee (Mulkey) Selvey. Duane attended Blackwell schools where he graduated. Duane had a love for learning and went on to earn a degree of Bachelor of Arts from Oklahoma Baptist University, a degree of Bachelor of Science in Industrial Education from the University of Oklahoma and a degree of Master of Science in Agriculture and Applied Science from Oklahoma State University. Duane joined the Army and served his country in the early Vietnam era. He made his career as a shop teacher in Tulsa Edison and Rogers High Schools. Later Duane taught industrial arts at OSU Institute of Technology in Okmulgee. He married his late wife, Pauline (Honeywell) Selvey in 2011 and decided to make Nowata his home. Duane was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nowata. He was also a member the American Legion, Masons, Order of the Amaranth, Order of the Eastern Star and Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. He held several offices including Past Master of Rock Lodge in Tulsa, Past Grand Royal Patron of Order of the Amaranth, Past Watchman of Shepherds of Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem and Past Patron of Order of the Eastern Star. Duane had several hobbies which included woodworking and attained the status of a master carpenter. As a master carpenter he worked on the 1960 Winter Olympics site in Squaw Valley, California. Duane is preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Eunice Selvey; wife Betty (Turney) Selvey and wife Pauline Selvey. Duane is survived by his sister Esther Lee White of Texas; step-children, Judge Carl Gibson and wife Deana of Nowata, Oklahoma, Dr. Jeffrey Gibson and wife Angie of Talala, Oklahoma and Ken Gibson and wife Helen of Tulsa, Oklahoma; step-grandchildren Meghan, Garrett, Rachel, Chase, Brett and Jackie Gibson; and sister-in-laws from his marriage to Betty Selvey; Easter Shaffer, Frances Turney, Katy Berryhill, Nancy Kesterson and husband Denzil and Linda Turney.
