Evelyn Janet Dayringer, 86-year-old resident of Grove, Oklahoma, was surrounded by her loving family when she went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 19, 2020.
Evelyn Janet was born on January 7, 1934 in Joplin, Missouri. She was the daughter of Reverend Jack and Evelyn (Etter) Hymer. She was united in marriage to the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Richard Dayringer, on January 26, 1952 in Carthage, Missouri, 68 years ago.
Janet fulfilled many roles in life, often at the same time. She was a loving daughter, wife, and mother. She taught herself to play the piano at age 12 to assist her father while he was preaching in churches. She continued this while serving as pastor’s wife in several churches in Kansas, Louisiana, and Missouri. She raised five children while working as a secretary, and later at Hallmark cards while her husband was completing his education. She graduated from Penn Valley Community College School of Nursing to become a registered nurse and finished her Bachelors degree at the University of Illinois-Springfield in 1980. Over the years, she worked as a Pre-School Coordinator, staff nurse at many hospitals, visiting nurse and home care coordinator, an adolescent psychiatric unit nurse, and as Clinical Director at Planned Parenthood in Springfield, Illinois. She loved to be around family and, while she never wanted to be in the spotlight, loved ones were naturally drawn to her. She enjoyed decorating her house, especially during the holidays, cooking big meals for the family, sailing, fishing, and she traveled to 37 different countries. She loved watching sports and was a die-hard Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan. She was honored by being listed in Who’s Who in the Midwest, the World’s Who’s Who of Women, the International Directory of Distinguished Leadership, and Who’s Who in American Nursing.
Evelyn Janet was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Rev. Jack Leonard Hymer Jr., sister Dixie Knowles, sister-in-law Cathy (Smart) Hymer, brother William Hymer, son Daniel Hymer Dayringer, daughter-in-law Nancy (Horn) Dayringer, and brother-in-law James Allen Dayringer. She is survived by her husband Richard Dayringer, children Stephen Lee, David Carter, Deborah Evelyn, James Ray, brother Rev. Ronald Charles Hymer, and eight grandchildren, two great-grandsons, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
