Luginbuel Funeral Home, Vinita, OK (918) 256-5555.....John Wesley McComb Jr. passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at his home in Vinita, Oklahoma. He was born October 11, 1926 in Big Cabin, Oklahoma to John Wesley McComb Sr. and Emma (Wright) McComb.
Johnny graduated from Big Cabin School in 1944. After High School Johnny enlisted in the United States Navy rising the rank of First-Class Petty Officer serving as a Yeoman during World War II. Following the Navy, he returned to Big Cabin and attended Northeast Oklahoma A&M College in Miami, Oklahoma where he earned his degree.
Johnny's automotive career began in 1949 when he was employed by Tressler Motor Company in Vinita. In 1957 he was employed as a salesman for Campbell-Price Ford. In 1961 after E.N. Price left the dealership, he became a junior partner at Carl Campbell Ford. After Carl's death in 1970 he and Carl's son Mike became partners in 1971. In 1973, after purchasing land for a new dealership, Green Country Ford opened in December of 1973, with John as principal dealer. Under his leadership Green Country Ford was the recipient of many awards and honors. In 1993, he received the Partner's in Quality Award. During the 1980's Johnny was selected by Edsel Ford to regularly travel to Detroit to sit on a Dealer Council and advise them on implementing ways to build a dealership. Johnny built many friendships in the auto industry and the city of Vinita. During his career he supported many civic projects, served on various boards such as Home of Hope, and American Red Cross. He was a long-time member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Rotary Club and Vinita Chamber of Commerce. In his spare time Johnny enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting coins, and hunting arrowheads. Johnny married Charlotte Banther in Vinita in 1976. They raised three children in Vinita and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Johnny was a very loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Preceding Mr. McComb in death are his parents John and Emma McComb, siblings Gary McComb, Jetta Harland, and a granddaughter Danielle McComb.
Survivors include his wife Charlotte of the home; three children, Lessia Connor and husband Eddie, of Langley, Peggy Babcock and husband Marty, of Vinita, Wesley Gene McComb and wife Misty, of Vinita; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; Sisters in Law, Roberta Arnold and husband Dan, Gail Bartles and husband Bill; Brother in Law, Anthony Smith; nieces Sherry Green, Jeannie Glanz; nephews, Shawn McComb, Buddy McComb, and Ronnie Harlan in addition to other nieces, nephews and relatives.
A visitation will be held Thursday, November 8, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Luginbuel Funeral Home, 332 N. Scraper, Vinita, Oklahoma. Funeral Services will be Friday, 10 a.m., November 9, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church of Vinita with Reverend Randy Little officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery Vinita, Oklahoma. Services are entrusted to Luginbuel Funeral Home of Vinita.
