Johnny Chumwalooky, age, 67, passed away peacefully at his home in Kenwood, Oklahoma on December 10, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on February 19, 1958, in Claremore, Oklahoma, Johnny lives a life deeply connected to his roots, his craft, and the land around him. A master knife maker, he earned respect near and far for his skill, precision, and artistry. His handmade blades reflected not only craftsmanship, but the quiet dedication and pride he carried throughout his life. Johnny was also a lifetime heavy equipment operator. Known for his dependable work ethic and steady hand he brought to every job. His experience and commitment made him a trusted presence on worksites throughout his career. An avid outdoorsman, Johnny found peace in the woods, on the water, and under open skies. He loved exploring the backcountry and was especially fascinated by Bigfoot stories and sightings, sharing tales and keeping a hopeful eye on the forests he knew so well. Nature was both his refuge and his companion, shaping many of his most treasured moments. A proud Cherokee citizen, Johnny honored his full-blood heritage and the traditions passed down throughout generations. Cherokee was his first language, and he carried it with pride throughout his life, using it to stay close to his culture, his community, and his ancestors. Johnny is survived by his partner of 30 years Gladys Staller. His children Eric Chumwalooky, Jessie Chumwalooky, and Jackie Chumwalooky. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Madison, Mason, Harrison, Leo, Anna, Jaylin, Amia, Tobie, Lucy, Millie, Janie, Ethan, Marvin, Isaac, Sammy, Alianna, and Eva; as well as his great-grandkids Arrow, Bentley, and Elora all of whom brought him immense pride and joy. He will be remembered for his steady presence, generous spirit, and the meaningful connections he formed with those around him. Johnny leaves behind family, friends, and countless others whose lives were touched by his warmth, craftsmanship, and character. He will be deeply missed.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. His funeral service will take place at Worley-Luginbuel Chapel in Jay, Oklahoma on Friday at 10:00 a.m., with a graveside service to follow at Cochran Cemetery.
