Richard James Pope, a beloved father and a man deeply passionate about life, passed away on November 27, 2025, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, at the age of 80. Born on March 4, 1945, in Brooklyn, New York, to Anthony and Lillian Pope. Richard’s life was defined by curiosity, determination, and a spirit that enriched those fortunate enough to know him.

Richard served his country with honor in the United States Navy, an experience that shaped his sense of duty and deepened his appreciation for camaraderie and service. He found joy in many pursuits throughout his life. He especially cherished doing craft projects with his grandchildren, always eager to create. As a dedicated member of the Bella Vista Radio Club and the Amateur Radio Club of the University of Arkansas, he delighted in recruiting, building, operating and teaching all aspects of amateur (ham) radio. His enthusiasm for activity extended to his involvement with the NRA Shooting Team, the Bicycle Club, the Running Club and the American Legion Post 341. This past April, he proudly completed the Hogeye Marathon, a reflection not only of his stamina but of his love for community and friendly challenge. As talented, professional billiard player, Richard brought the same focus and determination to the table that he carried into every aspect of his life.

Known for his humor and quick wit, he often joked, “I won’t tell anyone, but I’ll put it on the internet,” and “I’m not aging—everyone else is.” These sayings captured his joyful, light-hearted approach to life.

Richard, is survived by his mother, Lillian Pope (100yrs), five brothers and three sisters. Also survived by his children: Sherry Allen and her husband Buddy; Judy O’Neill and her husband Dale; Rick Pope and his wife Norma; Shandel Teafatiller and her husband Colby; Steven Pope and his wife Pam; Jodi Schultz and her husband Tony; Jennifer Coots and her husband, Adama. Furthermore, survived by his eighteen grandchildren: Bailey, Alexandria, Lillyan, Haylee, Lauren and Erica, Mark, Chris, Tamara, Jeremy, Tabitha, Brandon, Tyler, Megan Renee, Anthony, Skyler, Teir. Plus, nineteen great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense fondness and joy across the miles.

Richard was a steady source of strength, humor, and love. He embraced fatherhood wholeheartedly and often spoke of his family as his greatest accomplishment. The bond they shared was a testament to the care and devotion he poured into every moment with them.

He now joins his father, Anthony Pope and his son David Pope, who surely welcomed him home with open arms.
