Warren Shackelford

Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home - Jay, Oklahoma, 918-253-3222............Warren Dale Shackelford, 87, went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 27, 2019 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

Warren was born on August 17, 1931 in Colcord, Oklahoma. He was the son of Elmer D. Shackelford and Maud (Anglin) Shackelford. After graduating high school, Warren was awarded a basketball scholarship to the University of Tulsa. Warren quietly became one of the best basketball players in a class that gave basketball credibility to the University of Tulsa. Warren was chosen 43rd overall in the NBA Draft in 1953. But Warren did not seek publicity and had no illusions about an NBA career. He graduated from TU, and then married the love of his life Patricia Ann Triplett on March 27, 1954. It was then that Warren was drafted in the United States Army. Warren proudly served his country and was a member of the All Army Basketball Team stationed at Ft. Chaffee, Arkansas from 1954-1956. Warren was a career high school coach, teacher and administrator for Jay Public Schools for 32 years. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Coaches Hall of Fame and the University of Tulsa's Athletic Hall of Fame. He was an Elder of the Southside Church of Christ in Jay for over 40 years. Warren was also a member of the Whispering Hills Church of Christ in Broken Arrow.

Warren was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Pat Shackelford. He is survived by his son Larry Shackelford and wife Jil; one brother Jay Shackelford of San Bernardino, California, three grandsons: Joshua Dale Shackelford and wife Lyndie of Edina, Minnesota, Joel Lee Shackelford and wife Marissa of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jonathan Ray Shackelford and wife Desera of Coweta, Oklahoma. Warren was blessed with ten great grandchildren; 9 boys and one girl.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5-8PM, Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at Jay Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home Chapel. Services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 31, 2019 at the Bulldog Arena in Jay, Oklahoma. Warren will be laid to rest in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made in Warren's name to the Shackelford Scholarship Fund. Donations can be mailed to JPS c/o Misty Osborne, P.O. Box 670, Jay, OK 74346. Arrangements have been entrusted to Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Jay, Oklahoma.
